Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.9/100, a mean average of 65.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.4.

Macklemore has his moments on this. But he also lets his corniness show, and that can't make up for the terrible production from Ryan Lewis

This album is a rollercoaster, you hear Thin line, Neon Cathedral, even Can't hold us, and it makes you thing it will be a 5 stars album and then suddenly songs like Same love, white walls or Gold make you want to play pause and never hear of this album ever again.

Yes of course Macklemore became very popular and commercial, but the true is that this album put Macklemore in the spotlight for a good reason. We all know the fun, catchy, entertaining singles, but actually there are some impressively good songs that make this a good album (not great). These songs sound way more authentic and personal, but they tend to get lost between other plane overproduced songs.

Fav Songs: Thin Line, starting Over, Neon Cathedral, Wings
Low Points: Same Love and White Walls, Gold

This is one of the most polarizing albums in my collection. I'm sure this is partly because Macklemore is seen my many hip hop fans as a white boy appropriating black culture. But Macklemore is no Pat Boone. His rapping style is all his own, and he has a keen sense of social justice and purpose. Sure, "Thrift Shop" is throwaway fluff, nowhere is Macklemore's true self seen better than on the moving and powerful "Same Love," which rightly calls out hip hop for its long track record of homophobia. It's genuinely provocative in all the best ways.

Very good album, particularly the first half. It's not their fault they blew up and were overplayed on the radio. They were really trying to make a small independent rap album and it so happened everyone loved the songs.

Not a huge rap fan, but he's basically the exception. For those of you who called the lyrics "cheesy", I'd like you to listen to go listen to Same Love again. I'll give you, Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us are pretty silly but that's on purpose and the lyrics are still better than 90% of what else is out there in the hip-hop world. Really liked this, keep it up guys!

I dont often listen to rap/hiphop so ive got very little to compare it to. I went to spotify to listen to the thrift store song (just so damn catchy). before long, i realized i listened to the full album... and i liked it. strange.

Initially interesting but after multiple listens blends back into a mediocre mush.

Man what an album! No filler: catchy, addictive, insightful. What more can you say, the production of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis is second to none.

Macklemore and Ryan killed it on this one. One of the best rap albums of the year. No doubt. Deserves some respect on here for sure. Make the Money and Jimmy Iovine are the two best songs on here. So good
