Not a huge rap fan, but he's basically the exception. For those of you who called the lyrics "cheesy", I'd like you to listen to go listen to Same Love again. I'll give you, Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us are pretty silly but that's on purpose and the lyrics are still better than 90% of what else is out there in the hip-hop world. Really liked this, keep it up guys!
It's a nice album.
It was actually a pleasant surprise, I expected an album full of "thrift shop", but it turned out to be something completely different. If Macklemore continues to improve, then I think he might stand a chance of standing the test of time in the music industry.
Very good album, particularly the first half. It's not their fault they blew up and were overplayed on the radio. They were really trying to make a small independent rap album and it so happened everyone loved the songs.

Within one minute, Macklemore name drops Pitchfork and compares himself to a cross between Kanye and Bowie. That's setting the bar pretty high, but it's not too far off. I think his flow sounds more like Sage Francis while the production is like some of the better parts of Kanye and Gnarls Barkley. In fact, you could almost paint this as a 2012 College Dropout, right down to the children choir. It's not all good, there's a cringe worthy mount sermon about gay stereotypes wedged in there, and the polished production can make good lines sound Flight of the Conchordish at time. All in all, good album, probably deserved the chart success and more than a little underrated here.

Yes I did listen to this whole album. Yes I do think it's garbage. The lyrics and beats are borderline cheesy and unimaginative.
