It's the debut LP from 14 Iced Bears, a lo-fi psychedelic garage band who were lumped in with the "twee" genre, not entirely without justification, presumably due to an earlier association with Sarah Records. (Specifically, Sarah released a single of theirs, not included here, shortly before they signed with Thunderball Records for this album.) And it's not bad; they're more psychedelic than garage, but that's not a problem since those are not mutually exclusive terms. There's a distinct Velvet Underground influence happening here too, and frankly their best songs here are the most "Velvety." On the downside though, they're very "loose" (perhaps too much so for the material), the singer is clearly trying too hard to sound like he's stoned (or tripping, or both), and the stinging, treble-heavy guitar sound — while sometimes distinctive — probably made them hard for some people to listen to over the course of an entire LP. Still, they're bears, they're properly iced, and there are 14 of them, so I should just stop complaining.
