Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.0/100, a mean average of 70.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.2.

Very enjoyable album. Two obvious highlights are Closing Time and Secret Smile. I expected it to be one of those albums with two great hits and nothing else but I was pleasantly surprised. I also like This Will Be Our Year and Completely Pleased. Can't stand some of the lyrics on closing time though: "Closing time, time for you to go out to the places you will be from"... what?

Just another crappy one-hit-wonder band from the Late-90’s. Nothing more, nothing less.

Reminds me of Pablo Honey in that "REM discovers Pixies" sort of way.

Is there any one among us who can listen to "Closing Time" and not sing along to the catchy chorus? "Secret Smile" is another classic! Semisonic produced some terrific alt-rock in the 90s/00's but those two songs are unmatched. The other stuff on this album is worthwhile, too, just don't expect the greatness of those two previously mentioned.

Closing Time and Secret Smile make this album, the rest is fairly generic.

Maybe the most underrated album of the 90s? Really this entire band's discography is underrated.

This is one of those oft-forgotten alt-rock 90s albums which blend catchy instrumentation and hooks for an album which should be vying for most people's 90s top 100. The album is often thrown away as a one-song wonder ("closing time"), but that's not the case. It's a solid album throughout.
