Talk Talk was once a tinny synth-pop band. The Beatles started out their recording career with the thin "Love Me Do". Radiohead began as a fairly run-of-the-mill alt-rock band. Then we got works like "Laughing Stock", "Revolver", and "OK Computer". Ween began their recording career with odd mixes of helium-soaked vocals and Casio backing tracks (I know their earlier works have their fans, but face it they're not for everybody) but they came into full flower with Chocolate And Cheese, tapping a rich vein of diverse rock songs. With this album, Ween served notice that they were musically just about the most advanced band of the time.

At times the lyrics still retain vestiges of the early-era irreverence, just look at some of the song titles, a fact that would continue throughout Ween's career, but they're also writing more creative, accessible lyrics as well. Musically, the amount of ground they cover on Chocolate And Cheese is astounding. Prince-like funk, acoustic jangle pop, Philly soul, and a Mexican corrido. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Suddenly, the detrital bands of the grunge movement sounded uninspiring and a tad hollow.

Finding this shitty of feedback on BEA for a band as legendary as ween is pretty disappointing to me. (Edited)

"Chocolate And Cheese" is an oddball joy. Ween takes a shot of basically every genre and nails it. I impressed by how versatile the Ween's vocals are. There real pleasure is the strange song writing. You have the Alzheimer's perspective of "Freedom Of '76" in which the protagonist struggles to figure out what year it is. The revenge fantasy western of "Buenas Tardes Amigo" with the surprising twist. The magnus opus of this album and possibly the discography is "Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down)". Its a macabre gallow humors song about child death that morphs into one of the greatest guitar solos in history. I think that nearly every song on this album is good ,with some expectations, I don't think it hits the high points of "The Mollusk". Like is a much more stable feeling than love.

This album is a masterpiece, as Ween is a mastergroup. Better than The Mollusk in my opinion, this album features tracks such as Baby Bitch or Buenas Tardes Amigo, unbelievably original. Not as good as Quebec or White Pepper though (that's almost impossible haha).

Another fantastic album by Ween. Listen to "A Tear for Eddie" and then compare it to "Maggot Brain" if you want a reminder of how talented this band is. It's a tribute to Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel, and the resemblance is unreal. (Edited)
