A double CD of 2 qualities
CD 1: Raw Demos , "The Holiday Song" to "Vamos"
Recorded March 1987 into a cassette tape at Gary Smith's apartment (producer of early Pixies records) the day before the full band were booked to record 'Come On Pilgrim' at Fort Apache Studios. These recordings are raw and bootleg in sonic quality but provide an early look at tracks that would go on to be come Pixies classics. Essential listen for the uberfan (70/100)
CD 2: Re-imagined Pixies Classics , "Caribou" to "Planet Of Sound"
There's no other way to put it - this CD is terrible .
There's a trip hop version of "Where Is My Mind" , a strange echoed version of "Cactus" , an electronic "Monkey Gone to Heaven" , "The Holiday Song" with trumpets !!! , something weird that is meant to be "Subbacultcha" are just some of the worst atrocities . But the cake of all cakes goes to the closing version of "Planet of Sound" . OMG this track blows , the listener is forced to endure the lyrics "This Is The Planet of Sound" no less than 40 times repeated over the tracks tortuous and eye watering 15 minutes - yes ... 15 boring minutes . Why oh why did Frank mess with the Pixies gospel ? (20/100)
