This was Susan Tedeschi's debut album. She was nominated for a Grammy for best new artist for this album. She lost to Christina Aguilera, but what was remarkable was that a Blues artist whose debut album sold 40,000 units was even nominated. Listen to "It Hurt So Bad", and you will understand how great her voice is: more powerful than Janis Joplin, more mellifluous than Bonnie Raitt. The album has excellent covers of "Little By Little" (a Junior Wells tune) and "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean" (a great version exists by Koko Taylor). Another cover is the John Prine song, "Angel From Montgomery", another tune that demonstrates the beauty of her voice. The first song ("Rock You Right") is an outstanding rock tune while the last song ("Friar's Point") is a solid rocking blues tribute to some of the blues greats.
