Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 68.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.9.

This album was really a lot different than I'd expected it to be. Given that guitarist Mick Abrahams, had a history in Jethro Tull, I expected music that was not so strongly based on blues and jazz.

In fact, there is probably only a small handful of numbers that can be called prog. rock - the rest is more or less pure blues with some inspiration from jazz - not least influenced by saxophonist Jack Lancaster.

Musically, the group is obviously highly competent and they play with great conviction. Unfortunately the music sounds, to my ears, like many bands from the same period which had their main inspiration in blues and jazz. Mick Abrahams is a good singer to the genre, but he is not particularly interesting. The group has certain similarities with Savoy Brown, a group which I also never really learned to appreciate.

My favorittes on "Ahead Rings Out" are clearly the numbers where the kinship with Jethro Tull may be felt, after all. These are songs like "Sing Me a Song att I Know "," See My Way "and" Walk on the Water ". Also the folkish "The Change Song" is fine. Otherwise, I must admit that I do not belong to the target audience for this music.
