From the very beginning, this remarkable band was distinguished by its inventive music, featuring a variety of magnificent vocal harmonies (performed by four vocalists), stylish melodies, and a delightful sense of humor and eccentricity (in the spirit of Zappa and Captain Beefheart).
Of course, there are no complex structures or progressive ideas that would appear on their later albums. The debut album of 10 CC is inspired more by doo-wop, rhythm and blues of the 50s and beat music of the 60s. But here, the guys are already shining with their wit - puns, sarcasm and ambiguities are evident in almost all the texts.
The album's closing track, Fresh Air For My Mama, was actually a reworking of the song You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think Of It by the band Hotlegs. The musicality throughout the album is excellent. In my opinion, this is a successful and promising debut by a great band...

Bought original UK press (on UK records) at Cheapo records Soho, as new. In the late-80s and early-90s, they seemed to have dead stock of basic catalogue that was new, unsold. They never had anything amazing though. The best songs are Godley & Creme, though everyone in this band was a good writer. Obviously. I love "Hospital Song", and all their first four albums.
I wore the vinyl out on this record when it came out. Slick 70's pop with great hooks and production. Definitely worth a listen.

How can you not love a song with lyrics " We all got balls and brains, My son's got balls and chains". Clever wordplay, mixing of musical genres like DooWop(Donna), shifting modes within a song. Sorry I'm not a music critic, but there's a whole lot to love about this album. You will not be disappointed.
