Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Every year there’s one new producer that gets everyone hot under the collar, and in this case it’s Jlin and the collar in question is that of a nylon tracksuit jumper zipped to the top. The samples in this one made me laugh and the unrelenting beats make it hard for me to stop at just one track.
Best track: Unknown Tongues. On first listen it sounds repetitive, on second listen all these little intricacies reveal themselves.
A suitably intriguing and out-there debut that doesn't all quite hang together. However, Jlin goes on to greater things with "Black Origami" so it's all good.
An accomplished and rightly acclaimed debut from Jerrilynn Patton, also known as Jlin, an artist from Indiana, USA. With "Dark Energy", Jlin has reinstated IDM whilst providing her own intricate perspective on the "Footwork" genre. Bold and beguiling.
I liked it. Not really my style, but I can appreciate the stellar production and the imaginative beats. Good stuff.
