Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.5.

What I Am is a great song, the first half is extremely strong but the quality does dip considerably in the second half. Air of December is the second best track. I really like the vocals and instrumentals throughout the album.

A good album which is consistent throughout. It was a very original album for its time and didn't sound like so much else that was out there. It was not synth-pop or hair metal. Very early Poi Dog Pondering is the only thing I can think of that was remotely like it and that band too was coming out of Austin. The album has a mostly upbeat guitar driven sound but with some real depth to the lyrics.

Such a fun album the year it was released. I fell in love with Edie and the New Bohemian sound. It was simple, yet some of the songs off kilter and a touch sad. It was something different at the time, and when I saw them in Toronto's Massey Hall, I threw my flip-up sunglasses up to Edie and she put them on for half a song, and handed them back... even though I told her to keep them.
A special time and plenty of lazy listens to this album.

Stand out songs: What I Am, Little Miss S, Circle, Nothing, Love Like We Do

L'insostenibile leggerezza del pop che sa farsi interessante e finanche colto quando aggira la trappola della prevedibilità e si mischia con canzoni dallo stampo spesso cantautorale ma a volte anche rock.

Is an album which gives you energy. Her voice is filled with optimism and self confidence.

Listen to "what I am", "Love like we do" to understand that. Especially the first one, which I listened to nearly each day during a whole year.
