Yngwie takes a lot of heat for being obsessed with speed of classical lines at the expense of expression which is understandable. But he does have some compositional ability in addition to his shredding skill, and he does effectively fuse classical and speed metal in an impressive way.

It's true that he is extremely cocky, but that doesn't change the fact that he is very skilled. A common argument is that his playing is soulless. I disagree. He does run up and down scales sometimes but the beauty is still there. Just listen to a song like Black Star or Evil Eye of the Rising Force album.
