Jon Hassell's music is truly unique. If you are unfamiliar with his name you may have heard his playing as a session musician on Remain in Light by Talking Heads (Houses in Motion) and Brilliant Trees by David Sylvian. He has a particular technique of playing and processing that makes his trumpet sound like a human voice, or rather a hushed moaning. When I first discovered him, I thought he was completely bonkers. Now I think he is a genius (a fine line). A good introduction is his Eno collaboration, Fourth World Volume 1 Possible Musics.
