A tremendous soul shouter/singer who was first recognized for his work with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and then in an extremely successful solo career. Pendergrass had a reputation as a guy whose records while playing on a romantic evening would 100% guarantee bedroom success. "Turn Out The Lights" "Close The Door" "Joy" are some of his hot-buttered soul hits. His career was briefly interupted when he suffered paralysis in an accident, remaining a quadriplegic and having to re-learn to talk and sing again from nothing.
