Great comment by junodog, as usual. But I think Dallas Green is a more than just 'decent' singer. This band creates a very original juxtaposition between Green's very pleasant falsetto and the growling screamo of George Pettit. It's not an easily acquired taste by any means but I think you have to credit them with originality. I would say they have postpunk appeal at least as high as that of the much more highly regarded F#cked Up. I'm in my 40's with a teenage daughter 'into' these guys and I see the appeal of songs like Boiled Frogs, the Northern, Young Cardinals and a very worthwhile cover of the Dead Heart, among other tunes. Yes, I do greatly prefer City and Colour but this band has some merit. My rating, then, is just a bit higher than yours.
I never really understood how anyone over the age of 20 would like these guys. Musically, the band is OK. Dallas Green is a decent singer - you're better off listening to City In Colour. Otherwise, these guys are a tough listen. The aggressive screaming ruins some pretty mediocre songs. I remember people swearing black and blue that these guys were geniuses who would last forever - and now they've forgot them. This is music you outgrow.
