One of the great lost pop songwriters, the American McCartney, with similar melodic gifts and a savant-like grasp of multiple instruments and arrangement/production techniques. In the 1970s, he wrote, performed and produced every second of his albums, and although the results were oft-sublime nuggets of pop bliss, his perfectionism ultimately doomed him, as his record company sued him for failing to fulfill his contract of two albums a year. Thus he only released three albums before disappearing, only reappearing to record a final album in 2016 before his death last year in 2020. A fantastic artist and well worth checking out if you like lush, Beatle-esque pop.

Most underrated artist of all time. Listen to his self-titled album and you’ll wonder why this guy didn’t make it big. Some other highlights include the songs “Better Side Of Life,” “Mother Earth,” “Mirror,” “Warm Self Sacrifice,” “Love Will Stone You,” “Farewell To Paradise,” “Tame The Lion”, and “Really Wanted You.” This guy was a pop music genius, up there with the likes of Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson, and he deserves to be recognized and remembered as such.
