While it's clear that our tastes are different--there's quite a bit more hip hop in your 2014 chart than there is in mine--I really enjoyed spending a little time looking over your selections and identifying some I've never heard that seem promising. I've added Workshop 19 to a playlist I'll be listening to on a drive through rural Montana today; looking forward to checking it out!
Yeah, I felt pretty similarly about NehruDoom. Lacks a certain freshness overall.
@mecca - Yeah, Perfect Hair is fantastic. Will be in the Top 10 come the next update. It's actually my favourite Busdriver record, his most lean and most coherent, one where his tendencies towards weird musical sprawl or unnecessary vocal acrobatics are curtailed and brought into line, used as components in the forming of an album that works from beginning to end, and not pushed to the forefront for the sake of. 'Upsweep' and 'Motion Lines' are strangely beautiful, whilst 'Ego Death' may just be the most neurotic posse cut of all-time.
As for NehruvianDoom, it's OK. Nowhere near this chart, but fine. Haven't fully bought into Bishop Nehru (he seems to be from the same largely formalist, retro-fetishising school as Joey Bada$$ - clearly very talented in terms of rappity-rapping, but probably a little too conservative and reverential in 2014), and Doom just sounds uninspired when he's called upon to rap, as he largely has since the excellent Born Like This. Also, I've never known a man so shamelessly recycle old beats. I'm seriously worried he may be well past his best. It's not unpleasant by any means, it's just not very inspiring.
Finally giving Perfect Hair a proper listen. Quickly making a move towards the top of my favorite hip hop albums of the year. Good to see the Roots album make your chart. It's certainly better than a lot of people are giving it credit for.
What are your thoughts on Nehruvian Doom?
needs more lana and t swizzle ;)
You're almost certainly right, and a better writer might have researched such an integral part of his/her description, but my weed-ravaged memory says it was Mos Def, and that's the image that came to mind. I would change it, but caving to outside pressure (and factual evidence) is for commie fags and libtards.
I think you'll find it was Bill Nighy and Martin Freeman on that conveyor thing.

This chart is bangin' yo.
Lots of stuff from this year that I love and some stuff to check out.
