I don't know, is everyone listening to the same album as me? Cos everyone's complaining how difficult a listen it is, lacking any discernable singles etc etc, when it just sounds like a perfectly smooth listen with subtle but obvious earworm pop songs all the same.
In fact, I'll go to say Blond has so many of the qualities missing from white music these days: balls; new ideas; sonic innovation; and the ability to take the listener to new places. Just as much as this is a modern, 21st Century R'n'B album it's also a spiritual heir to works such as Closer or Loveless - it's that good. Simply put, Frank Ocean makes everyone else look like a bunch of clueless, ungainly fools. Wow.

Nearly 20 years from when they last released new material Blind Spot EP is a perfect mix of their early dreamy, shoegazing sound with the punchy Brit-Pop of their last album that can stand shoulder to shoulder with some of their best songs. Yet again sounding like a dream mix between ABBA and The Cocteau Twins, how can this be wrong? [First added to this chart: 04/15/2016]

No-one has died quite like David Bowie, starting with the utter shock his passing elicited, the lack of ceremony or mourners surrounding his funeral, to this, his last album, his going away gift to his fans, released two days before dying.
In death as in life Bowie has endeavered to create a work of art. This is the last thing he has left us from a life of breaking taboo's, pioneering new music, new ideas, and just generally being a true, bona-fide star. David Bowie, you will be missed.

I haven't listened to EITS since 2003's The Earth is Not A... so The Wilderness is a welcome surprise. Each track twinkles and sparkles in it's own beautiful way, whilst some really lovely and inventive electronic effects glow around them, marking a departure from the guitar-orientated post rock sound. Proof that the day of artists producing difficult, boundary pushing albums is far from over, Hopelessness is a dazzling and thought-provoking piece of work. Leaving behind the previous baroque-rock stylings of before for a more contemporary, electro feel this is a brave and exciting step forward for ANOHNI. [First added to this chart: 05/13/2016]

Ulrika Spacek rock in a kind of Television/Pavement/Sonic Youth stylee with each song coming on in the kind of riff-age those bands specialise in, so yeah, this album is for fans of 'interesting' guitar chords. Saying that, the band repeat each riff to a hypnotic, stoner-friendly groove. It's enjoyable. [First added to this chart: 02/07/2016]

Or hope for the hopeless. Coming on like a folky, early Verve but without the hokey psychedelia, these songs match the passion and the desperation of every busker who knows the power of a strongly strummed guitar or of a song belted out to the heavens. Suicide Songs has a heart as big as Manchester. [First added to this chart: 01/29/2016]

Billed as his possible last album, PPD is a renaissance of sorts for the man, with the album revisiting one of his classic lp's - The Idiot. Whilst not as good, it is nice to hear him successfully come back with some of his best material in years. [First added to this chart: 03/24/2016]

"Reflective and nostalgic look back to the spirit of '88 (both Phuture and Inner City are notably referenced) even if the politics of 2016 manage to get a look in. Another excellent lp from the Dept." November 2016 [First added to this chart: 11/17/2018]
