Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.6/100, a mean average of 69.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

Much as I love this band for their early 00s output, recent releases have become less and less memorable. It is pretty enough, but nothing really stands out or connects in the vein of their earlier work.

I haven't listened to new material from this band since 2003's The Earth...so the new lp is a welcome surprise to see how they've progressed over the years. Overall, it's a strong album with some nice electronic sounds and less emphasis on the guitar-orientated post rock sound. Well done.

This is one of my all-time favorite bands, but it seems as if they've strayed away from their post-rock power a bit. They've incorporated new sounds but it lacks their heavy progressions that is part of their signature. Overall, I'll still treasure this album as a favorite & will continue to listen to it. Similar in style with the likes of The Rescue & other soundtracks. Unique from the rest of discography which makes me respect this that much more.
