Real Shoegaze: A Short Guide

Shoegaze is one of the most underappreciated genres out there, and in my opinion, the critical consensus on what is good is quite bad. There are a bunch of bands out there that are essentially noise post-punk, such as MBV's earlier works including Isn't Anything. These bands, with retrospect, are not really shoegaze much at all, but much closer to noise-rock. So, I have taken it upon myself to educate the masses on what is both real and good shoegaze (yes, I'm consciously on my high horse :). The albums are in a random order, I suppose

This is an almost literally unheard of, but stunningly gorgeous, shoegaze album with dream pop leanings.

This one is an amazing modern shoegaze album from a chicago band, I believe. This album is packed with a bunch of super catchy power-shoegaze tunes.

Hey! Give it the same chance that loveless gets! I feel like people listen to it once, and then toss it away saying "its no loveless" without remembering that loveless took a while to really love too. This album, though of course not as good as loveless, is still superb, and deserves much more recognition.

Another modern shoegaze record like Infinity Maps

This one is a fairly unique one that came out a little after the turn of the century. Its much noiser and more lo-fi than a lot of these other ones, but its decidedly shoegaze.

This one is a cool record, and one that I would highly recommend, but its kinda a placeholder for their EP "57 Octaves Below", which is an amazing effort that clocks in at 19 minutes.
