Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.0/100, a mean average of 76.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

A construção da parede de som é fantástica!
A lot can happen in 22 years. That’s the gap between ‘Loveless’ and m b v. And one of those things is music taste and in particular mine. In the late 80’s and early 90’s I was a huge shoegazer and MBV were king in my world and unsurprisingly I owned everything they released and I mean EVERYTHING originally on vinyl and then the obligatory CD “upgrade”. Eventually I got older and with it my tastes changed and all but forgot about my shoegaze phase, so when ‘m b v’ hit the shelves in 2013 I simply didn’t care which I now regret because it truly is an excellent album
Shields was on a hiding to nothing with this one coming off the back of the landmark ‘Isn’t Anything’ and ‘Loveless’ which is in a class of its own but somehow manages to pull it off even with a couple of duds thrown in (“is this and yes” & “if i am”) and highlighted by the pounding looping drive of the “Glider” - esque “ nothing is”
If I told you there were 2 tracks that knock this from 10/10 I'm sure you could tell me which ones. The heavenly sounds on most of these tracks are absolutely killer. The "harder" tracks hit well too. Now where is all this material Kevin was promising? Don't tell me one of the most critically acclaimed musicians of a generation is facing confidence issues again :(
Few bands can take a 20 year hiatus then come back and pick up exactly where they left off. Though maybe not as musically stunning as Loveless, m b v is just as, if not more so, lush as the aforementioned masterwork. Now if only they would release more music.
This is fantastic.
Fav. Tracks: Only Tomorrow, Wonder 2.
not as good as loveless but still amazing. Mbv can do no wrong at this point
This was awesome, albeit a tad below Loveless.
Favorites: She Found Now, New You, In Another Way.
This I love less than Loveless but I love this nonetheless.
It's no Loveless, but it's no Head Carrier either. A solid, more danceable, continuation of the style MBV are known for.
