Top 20 Greatest Music Albums by GBrady
I am MUCH more oriented toward individual tracks than albums. This is my first attempt at cataloguing the albums that are most important to me. I will likely break several "rules" that critics have enshrined over time such as "No live albums" and "Compilations are cheating."
The no compilations rule has the effect of eliminating nearly all pre-rock era artists from consideration simply because albums didn't exist prior to 1950.
Also certain genres or time periods did not (and maybe STILL don't) see pursuit of a great grouping of songs as a goal: they were after 2-3 hit singlesand then another 7-8 or so songs to "fill out" the album that may not have been great work or particularly in the case of early rock 'n' roll were covers of other artists' tunes. Some of those are revelatory but by and large they are most reminiscent of your local bar cover band: enjoyable but nothing you would want to hear repeatedly.
For some artists, their most exciting and fully realized album (IMHO) stems from a live performance.
Know that this is very "first draft" and would likely be vastly different a month from now let alone a year hence.
