The rise and downfall of Brian Wilson and the whole production era of 1966-1968 really gives me the creeps in the best way. It's really crazy how differently music history would've gone if they'd released Smile in 1967, especially considering how some Beatles albums have been considered a reaction to them. They were still strong through the 70s in my opinion and their 2012 comeback is great. Deceptively deep and complex, which I guess is a beautiful thing. It's art under the guise of simplicity

The greatest American band of all time! They've made so much wonderful music and I've no idea why they're considered overrated when albums like "Today!", "Wild Honey", "Friends", "Sunflower", "Carl and the Passions - So Tough", "Holland" and "Love You", which are all great from start to finish, can be ranked so low. Unique sound, exceptional songwriting and bringing back good memories of summer.
I get they are great pop musicians. I get that they had wonderful harmony. I get that their music is part of Americana. I like several of their songs. But I don't understand why everyone thinks Pet Sounds is so amazing. Half of it makes me want to sleep.
They are one of the greatest bands of all time. Everyone who only listened to Pet Sounds needs to check out their other records. Even though they might be not as good (bar The SMile Sessions) there is a lot of wonderful music to discover.
