Billy Joel has written lots of good pop songs that are close enough to rock to be enjoyable. I'm not sure he ever made a great classic album but he made a lot of good ones.
Amazing artist with an incredible number of hits. The big ones (Vienna, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, etc.) are mandatory listening. Go ahead and give the albums a listen too, there's a surprising number of excellent deep cuts.

My first four albums were Billy Joel ones and I still listen to them. Standard rock'n roll at its best.
