Top 7 Music Albums of 1991
by Junomoogmello
This chart is under construction. Albums will be added as being re-listened to. Only music which I own on vinyl, CD or tape will be included. No digital download music will be included because I believe digital downloads have killed the music industry. Artists would promote an album through touring up and down the UK. Album releases from bands used to be exciting. Because artists no longer need to tour to promote albums, live concerts are gradually becoming a thing of the past...

Now that I have eventually got around to buying this album, I must admit that track for track I put this above The Joshua Tree which was my favourite U2 album. This album has more edge (I don't mean guitarist), it has a rawness which rocks!

There are two Marillion's. The Fish led which carried the jester theme through a number of albums with great results and the Steve Hogarth led which for me is more thought provoking and deep. I actually like both but swing in favour of Steve Hogarth led. I saw Steve Hogarth in How We Live before he joined Marillion and was totally struck with his amazing vocal talents to the point where I travelled to Cardiff arena to see the tour of this album, the concert was superb! Dry Land is one of my all time favourite tracks, the lyrics, the bass, the lead solo, the amazing vocals and subtle synth textures. The musicianship on this album is brilliant and the lyrics on every track are heartfelt and delivered with clarity. The guitar solo work by Steve Rotherhy on a number of tracks is fantastic! This album should be further up the chart and no doubt will be in years to come. Get it on vinyl though!

I don't really understand what this album is doing down here in 12th position. I put it close behind World Machine for quality. The title track is a personal favourite but there are many other great upbeat tracks here.

'Something Got Me Started' and 'Thrill Me' were always my favourite tracks from this album and a recent listen confirms this. As an early nineties album it still has that eighties sound in my opinion, which I think is a good thing given that the eighties as with the seventies and sixties before it was about innovation and pushing boundaries. I do hear that on this album which sadly was not the case from a lot of bands nineties output.

Still have the tape and listen to occasionally. Great album. Had a lot of play when my former cars had tape units, sadly the current car can't even play CD's?

I was never sure if I liked Metallica but I like Diamond Head so thought I would give this, their most accessible offering a go. I like it, great riffery and guitar soloing in parts. 'Wherever I Roam' is a personal favourite with its Eastern influenced opening, heavy riff and blistering guitar soloing. I don't think I will head further into the Metallica catalogue as I am not a lover of all out thrash metal which I understand is what their core output has been. Good on Bill Bailey getting Enter Sandman an airing on Strictly!

I am one of a few who enjoys the later Genesis as much as the earlier Genesis. I really like this album, it has quite a typical eighties feel about it. The opening track has a very simple sequencedsynth bass line which was a foundation for many eighties bands, so you can't blame the boys for embracing the modern era.
