Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 12% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 77.5/100, a mean average of 76.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 16.4.

The Fish - Era : 100 / 100
The Hogarth - Era 60 / 100 .
Nothing against Hogarth (great voice !) , but since he joined the band the majority of their albums are just mediocre . ( except for Season`s End and The Brave )

They are the best band since The Beatles because of how many influences they combined into a really unified sound.

It's true that their 82-87 days were more consistently high quality, and their music did take a dive in the early 90s. However I think by that point Marillion had lost many of their fans, who ought to rediscover some of the phenomenal music they have made in the last 10/15 years. Sure, it's more sparse, but they seem to have found the way of making perfect emotional rock songs.

I also prefer Fish' vocals and lyrics. I find them special. But I must say that Hogarth's era have released quality material which isn't all pop. Check Marbles or Sounds that can't be made for example, and I have heard that Brave is great too.

Pretty much agree with Robert. The Fish era and the first Hogarth album are all classics. After that, it's kind of hit or miss. They were kinda Genesis clones (much like Muse sounded a lot like Radiohead for a while) but with a 80s alternative flavor. Still great though :)
