Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 83.0/100, a mean average of 80.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 13.9.

I agree, this is an excellent list for people genuinely interested in bluegrass and REAL country music. Well done! I'm surprised I didn't see Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" album here.

Nice chart! I like everything on your list. The only artists that you didn't include that come to mind are The Flatlanders, Willis Alan Ramsay, and Robert Earl Keen.

Great starting point if you want to get into country. I could use more Waylon (This Time) and Bob Wills. My first favorite list, added for reference and reminder purposes.

When it comes to country, you've got the right idea of what is worth listening to. Your list is a sharp rebuttal to people who write the genre off entirely. How much alternative country would you say you like? Have you heard Neko Case? You would love her!

Perhaps you can help me... When I was young, my dad bought an album by Don Williams called New Horizons. Looked everywhere for the whole original album, but can't find it... has it been deleted, or is it still available do you know?

Kudos on K.d. Langs Shadowland. How about some more Emmylou if only because I like looking at her album covers:P

Well, if all you like is country, at least you like the good stuff. Nice list.
