I always had McCartney down as predominantly a writer of sappy love songs so this was a departure from that with themes of loneliness and a “what’s the point of it all” vibe.
As with quite a lot of McCartney’s work though, I still find it a little annoying and a little twee.
It’s interesting that the band only do vocals on the track, with the orchestra taking the strain on the instruments side. The first time that the Beatles had done this? Not sure but feels like it

A wonderful piece of baroque pop, later to compete with "She's Leaving Home" on Sgt. Pepper's.

This song is almost 60 years old...let that sink in.
1966 McCartney was on another level. The imagery of this song is unbelievable, I love the video for it too cut out of the Yellow Submarine movie. Certainly a top 5 Beatles song. Not much more to say. It’s a magical song
