Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 4% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 81.9/100, a mean average of 81.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.2/100. The standard deviation for this track is 12.9.

Only now, 30 years on - and in the midst of some difficult times personally, do I see how great the song is.
Picking a favourite REM tune is like picking a favourite child, but this is up there with ‘You are the everything’ and ‘Nightswimming’ for me.
I think this has always been my favourite REM song.

An almost perfect track
(1) Is universally considered by R.E.M as one of their very favourite in the R.E.M catalogue
(2) The vocals and lyrics for this track were recorded in one take , Stipe stepped up to the mic and this is what came out . No over dubs , no re-records - 1 take . Buck is quoted as saying: "This is what was on his mind this day "
(3) The song is (obviously) an angry one , Stipe is quoted as saying: " This track comes from a dark place "
(4) At some concerts Stipe would sing this track with his back to the audience
The fact that the score is lower than Shiny Happy People pisses me off...
The most emotional track on the album according to Bill Berry. A fantastic track that is dark and moody
R.E.M.s finest moment, such a dark atmospheric song. Never played it live on the occasions I saw them unfortunately, but seen live version on a DVD they released and it was even better than the studio recording.
