One of the three greatest jazz records of all time? From a man that kills every solo he's been given and just has an awe inspiring body of work (black unity, deaf dumb blind, thembi, just any record he put out from 67 to 74)

It's pretty much perfect. I also adore Thembi and Black Unity (those two in particular, but it's hard to go wrong in that period), but gotta say that this is my favourite on most days. Never checked who engineered or produced this, but texturally it's just gorgeous - the brutal crescendos have a perfect balance of collective murk and individual clarity, that the entire thing feels at once telepathic and yet still driven by its creators' personal urges. It's also just super fucking groovy, which sometimes gets lost in everyone's desire to emphasise its inherent spirituality. It feels like Gamble & Huff trying to make a Velvet Underground record (but please do excuse my reductive comparisons). It's great. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Might get shit for this but in all honesty, this is better than A Love Supreme. Love Supreme is great. But when I think of a higher bar for jazz in the 60's I'd go for this. Skinny's write up is correct. Honestly it is when you get the hurricane of noise where this becomes a personal highlight for me.

The holy trinity was Black Unity, Love In Us All and Karma. That was until I've heard Wisdom Through Music, which is too good and somewhat forgotten. It might just creep into that top 3. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart

While I prefer Black Unity, Karma is undeniably incredible. I don't have much to say to add to what others have already said. While Sanders' saxophone is incredible, some of the drumming and percussion really shines throughout his work. Man knew how to lead a band. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
