This album was fine, showed a lot of promise with the singles released before the album, particularly "Harmony Hall", but I think those songs were significantly better than the album overall.
It's still a solid effort, but for me it was a very disappointing follow-up to Modern Vampires of the City, which currently sits in my top 10 of all time (though will probably fall out when I decide to update my charts). I do think FotB did some interesting things, but remains my least favorite Vampire Weekend album by far _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

Yeah I agree this is lesser VW. The stand out Travis were major that year and I listened to the album a good amount: I remember feeling a great sense of relief when first listening to this it’s first week or so because… woohoo a new Vampire Weekend album finally!
But mostly this hasn’t stuck to my proverbial ribs as long as (obviously) the absolute masterpiece that is MVotC, nor their excellent first 2 albums. Still, it’s solid.
I think I listened to This Life by far more than any other song in 2019. Followed by Harmony Hall. And then everything else. Really really good singles. Unbearably White and Hold You Now and Big Blue are also quite good. _________________ -Ryan
