4. Fantasia
5. Gilda
6. Citizen Kane
7. Brief Encounter
8. Beauty and The Beast
9. Jour De Fete

Must've forgot to copy paste correctly. Let me know if there's any other inaccuracies.

How helpful though?

I have always thought 1940 and 1941 are two of the strongest years not just of the decade but of all time. 1946 too, but it's more top heavy than anything ( handful of great classic films and a few good ones) as opposed to the other two, which literally have a dozen great films each and at least another dozen very good ones.

My top 100 breakdown basically agrees with you outside of 1946 being only a handful, it's the strongest year according to my list:
1940: 11
1941: 7
1942: 7
1943: 7
1944: 9
1945: 9
1946: 16
1947: 11
1948: 11
1949: 12

Decided to break mine down too and 1946 has the most in my top 100 as well. Contradiction? It doesn't fair as well in the 101-200 range, with only six more films making that portion of my chart, which I suppose is what I meant by top heavy. But I never noticed how good 1948 is until now. Here's my breakdown with the submitted 100 and then the total 200 in parenthesis.
1940: 12 (22)
1941: 8 (21)
1942: 9 (21)
1943: 8 (13)
1944: 12 (21)
1945: 9 (18 )
1946: 14 (20)
1947: 8 (18 )
1948: 13 (30)
1949: 7 (16)
