Just want to announce that the list entries for our all-time list will cut off at 250. The final list will be 250 as well. Similar to IMDb's main list.

This is mainly due to the very selfish reason that I can't seem to dwindle my all-time list to below that number Anxious

If there are any objections, just say so.

I object, 250 is way too fucking many.

making and ranking a fucking 250 film list will be the toughest list I've ever made.

Yeah tell me about it. That sounds like a headache I prefer to avoid.

Bear in mind, much like the top 100s, you can choose to do "just" 100 or 75 or 150. No need to try to reach 250. I may end up distilling my list to my top 150 or 200 or even 100 when all is said and done.

Too many for personal lists, or the overall list?

I think the overall list will be 250 no matter what. The only thing I'm contemplating is what to cap submissions off at. If you think it's too much, I'm definitely going to take in that input. Looking for a consensus.

Which raises another question, Hayden - one which is completely off topic for the early cinema thread but what the hell - how are you planning on weighting the votes, will a number one vote out of 250 count as 250 points? or will it still be capped at 100 and some zones of votes all have the same value? Like toward the end of some potential top 250 lists, will the last 10 or 20 films have the same value as each other in that zone?

math is hard.

Oh of course. However, it always says "the size of your list determines its weight." I've never completely understood that, but it sounds like if I only submitted 100, they would only count in points as the equivalent of films ranked 151-250 on a 250 size list. If that's incorrect, please tell me what it actually means.

^^^

Ha, seems Merc and I were thinking the same thing at the same time. No objection to final 250 list but I think individual lists should be capped at 100.

This is correct ^

That's how it would work. Which, as you have already pointed out, does make me question the 250. A film with 10 #1's on a list out of 100 would have the same value as 4 #'s on a list of 250. Which, bluntly, is definitely a big difference.

Which is the formula I've been using all along (it's much different than BEA's tallying methods).

Soooo, cap submissions off at 100 or 250? If it's 100, I'll have some dwindling to do Anxious

I think the final list at 250 is pretty set though.

Okay, so with that in mind, I suppose capping at 100 is best. My mind is clay and it has been molded.

Can't speak for anyone but I can safely assume we're not into that false-modesty bullshite, let's make this the War & Peace of movie polls. 250 ftw. Obviously it's fine if the numbers after 100 or 150 or whatevs have more incremental value, but ya know we all like to show off I mean support our favorites I mean Anxious

Also should have this particular list in by the morning.

ok so as we all know I have a tendency to half-finish things and then completely drop the ball, so just to be safe here is the first 50 entries and I will try my darnedest to have a full 100 lined up by the 18th
