My fav Davis album, I love how the music can be both hectic and chill. The first few minutes of side 2 are simply sublime.

This landmark release by Miles/Macero (another of many) is credited for launching Jazz Fusion. A must listen.

It's solid, but not great. Now, the second track is, but the first track lacks quite a bit of FLAIR.

Better than Bitches Brew, but not as good as Kind Of Blue.

Note from my overall chart:

"This is music. This is like the most amazing, shimmering, shape-shifting, soothing, restless music I've ever heard. In A Silent Way is 40 minutes long, 2 long tracks. Both are perfect. Also, the band here may be the most musically accomplished ever. I mean the fact that Zawi, Corea and Herbie and Miles, McLaughlin, and Tony Williams amongst others are all in one band on one album just makes me adore this automatically.

Now as for the music, well it is something seemingly free of form, just layers of rich grooves, vamps and intricate and gorgeous solo laid atop each other. It builds up, builds down, goes from side to side, rolls in and out of new musical lands and just pulls you along for the ride. And this is not jarring music. Like I said, it's totally surreal and peaceful. It's a unique experience to say the least.

Both tracks are massively recommended and eye opening. They're like twin towers of delight. I will say that despite how amazing "Shhhhh/Peaceful" is, the real highlight for me of not only this album, but also Jazz and Ambient and maybe even music in general, is the opening and closing minutes of "In A Silent Way/It's About That Time". It's pure serenity. It's the best and most well realized and stimulating ambient I've ever heard. It's making me salivate just writing about it.

Now all of you go listen to "In A Silent Way". It's good for you."

----

So yeah, I definitely love it. One of the greatest albums ever.

Anyone else getting a slight Alan Partridge vibe from Mercury's comment?
