- Post subject: Best Ever Films of 2015 [Closed]
|
I wasn't going to post this until Monday, but due to the fact that I'm super busy all next week, I've decided to post this today. It gives me a chance to answer any questions. The 60's list thread will be posted 1 week today.
With 2015 recently behind us, I’m hoping for BEA to reflect on the best films of the year. This time around, there will be five different list submissions. You guys can participate in as many or few as you wish. The overall list will consist of 50 films.
Outcome of this thread:
BEA's composes a list of our 50 favourite films of 2015.
Top 5 - Male Acting Performances
Top 5 - Female Acting Performances
Top 5 - Original Soundtrack
Top 5 - Cinematography
Anything with an international release date between January 1st 2015 and December 31st 2015 will be accepted. Documentaries will be allowed, but shorts (<40 min) will not.
All lists will be PMed to me, maxing out at 50. The final list will be 50 films. I'll be accepting lists of any denotation up to 50. The size of your list determines it's weight.
Rules for additional categories:
Male Acting - Submitted lists will max out at 10, but the final list will be 5 actors. Any actor is allowed to be submitted, supporting or lead. Multiple performances for the same actor will be considered separate entries.
Female Acting - Submitted lists will max out at 10, but the final list will be 5 actresses. Any actress is allowed to be submitted, supporting or lead. Multiple performances for the same actor will be considered separate entries.
Soundtrack - Submitted lists will max out at 10, but the final list will be 5 original soundtracks. What constitutes ‘original’ will be discussed if needed.
Cinematography - Submitted lists will max out at 10, but the final list will consist of the cinematography of 5 films. Cinematographers will be credited in the final list. CGI-Animation is going to be applicable for this category.
Eligible films:
The Lobster
Knight of Cups
99 Homes
The Little Prince
It Follows
Phoenix
Paddington
What We Do In The Shadows
Love & Mercy
The Duke of Burgundy
Non-eligible films:
Mommy
Wild Tales
Making A Murderer
Wolf Hall
World of Tomorrow
Show Me A Hero
Unclear of eligibility at this point (open to discussion):
The Look of Silence
The Jinx
The Witch
Selma
Hard To Be A God
When Marnie Was There
I'm going to leave the better judgement up to you guys. Put a film on your list if you think it's a 2015 release. If you find that either IMDb, Letterboxd, Wikipedia or RottenTomatoes considers it a 2015 film, then you can put it on your list.
If someone puts Whiplash on their list for some reason, I doubt anyone else would, and therefor it wouldn't make the final cut anyway.
The lesser accepted films won't make the cut. Just be reasonable with the submissions, and I'm sure we'll be fine. Just avoid the films put under the 'non-eligible' category in the original post.
Deadline is April 16th. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

So, I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but does Selma qualify? I'm pretty sure it got a limited release in '14 but opened wide in early '15.
Also, I'm very excited about this. 2015 was the first year I went and saw over 60-65 films, it was the first time working a full year in a theatre and it was the first time I had access to Netflix or any streaming site the whole year. So, yeah, my list won't be quite as laughable as years past. _________________ -Ryan

I had that in the 'unclear of eligibility' category at first, but I edited it out within minutes. Unless there is protest, I will not be accepting it. I understand where you're coming from though.
I don't think anyone considers it a '2015' film... and it was eligible for the 2014 Oscars, even if it was kinda cheating. Letterboxd and IMDb label it as a 2014 as well...
What do you guys think? Ye or ne on Selma?
Also, please feel free to contest any applicable or non-applicable films. Clears things up for everyone. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

Nay. The Oscar nom last year should settle that.

I think I'm going to allow What We Do In The Shadows. Mainly because it wasn't largely available until 2015, and I would love for more people to watch it. It's possibly the funniest movie I've ever seen. This is, after all, to find film recommendations. Which also means, I've gotta add it to my list
If anyone has any issues with What We Do In The Shadows being included, just speak up.
International release dates are going to be treated slightly different. Henceforth What We Do In The Shadows being accepted and not Selma, the later of which was in American cinemas in 2014. What We Do In The Shadows was released in American cinemas (along with a wide release) in 2015. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
