yeah archivals (of which are the original release) are a yes from me and reissues a no unless they are much more different to the original i guess

yeah i'm pro-archival and anti-reissue, but i do think that it's possible to make the case that Breadwoman or an Awesome Tapes from Africa release is a different kind of reissue. still, i had access to that ATfA Aby Ngana Diop cassette long before they put out their reissue, and since i figure most of us are digesting this music digitally, i'm fine just being broadly anti-reissue.

the only reason why i think these kinds of releases being included is nice is that i feel like the point of ALC is to expose us all to new music, and we get much more diverse kinds of music when we let recently unearthed gems from different eras come into play every so often, too. but it's honestly not the biggest deal in the world either way to me, as my personal habits and the maintenance of my own 2016 log aren't really affected by it.

I'm pro-archival, and pro-reissue (in cases of albums that were otherwise virtually unobtainable/unknown prior to this year's release. I think that a lot of really incredible reissues get overlooked by major publications for the same reasons we're considering overlooking them. That said, I'd hate to see nothing but reissues and archivals week after week, but having them every once in a while would be nice. In other words, I'd rather be introduced to a really unique reissue than some 2016 release I'd have heard on my own anyway.

I think I'm with mecca on this for the most part. I'm for archivals and I think re-issues are a case by case basis. Like, I think we'll know if a re-issue doesn't belong, like if it's an album everyone knows or everyone has easy access to, but in the case of virtually unknown albums, I have no problem with a re-issue. Like Satie said, I believe the point of the ALC is to expose us to albums we otherwise wouldn't have heard, and I thinking carpet-banning re-issues and archivals will unnecessarily limit that.

But at the same time, I don't feel overly strongly about that, so if everyone else feels different, that's fine.
