- Post subject: Best Songwriters Redux [CLOSED. GET OFF MY LAWN!]

Back by popular demand (well, two people) we present another go-round, featuring a new set of nominees. When this has finished, we'll pit the winners of the first tournament against the winners of this one in a Championship round. Or something.
Let's briefly reiterate the rules from before, shall we?
1. This is about lyric writers, but if you choose to consider how well the music interacts with those lyrics in your voting, feel free.
2. Any songwriter is eligible except artists from the Top 40 of BEA and anyone who was nominated in the previous round (see below for the list). If a songwriter was part of a band that's in BEA's Top 40 but also wrote for a band or solo career outside the top 40, only lyrics for that group are accepted. For example, Paul McCartney could be nominated, but only songs he wrote for himself or Wings, no Beatles lyrics can be considered.
Results and nominees from the first installment:
Winner - Joni Mitchell
Runners Up - Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave
Other nominees (and therefore ineligible for this tournament) - Ray Davies, Andy Falkous, Jason Isbell, Doug Martsch, Jason Molina, Joanna Newsom, Prince, Mark Sandman, John Mayer, Warren Zevon, Roc Marciano, Jeff Buckley, Will Toledo, Mark Kozelek, Wayne Coyne, Isaac Brock, Ghostface Killah, Billy Bragg, Gil Scott-Heron, Smokey Robinson, PJ Harvey, Paul Simon, John Lennon, Stan Ridgway, Paul Westerberg, James Murphy, Nas, Mark E. Smith, and Kate Bush
Tournament will begin when we have reached either 32 or 64 nominees.

Instead of just having people vote for binary list-polls, how do we encourage actually listening to an artists work in this tournament?

I have no objection to people pimping out their nominees in the thread.
Of course, if everyone in general prefers the regular tournament format, I'd be willing to switch to that. Just wanted to try the more compact method at least once to avoid cluttering the Games forum.

Or reading.
I'd encourage people to pick a couple songs they're unfamiliar with, search for the lyrics, and read along.
