If I was so disappointed by Bon Iver's last record, it was because this one was so good.

For Emma is a solid album. For what it is it is very good. The only problem I have with this album is how safe it is. It's not genre defying by any means. It's nothing new, it's nothing that music has not already seen before (with the exception of the falsetto voice of Justin Vernon). All in all this album is good and I would give it an 8.7 if I could give more exact ratings on this site (wish we could). For Emma is a very solid debut effort from a very talented group of individuals and I was a bit worried for them after their EP because I thought they wouldn't ever be able to top For Emma. They put my worries to shame with the recent self titled release. The self titled Bon Iver album released in 2011 is their best effort to date. It is more than a step in the right direction; it is a leap. The self titled album has somethings going for it that the first was lacking. Ambition, genre eclecticism, and epic cohesiveness. Not to mention the new album is beautiful and packs just as much, if not more emotion than the first album. Bon Iver decided to shoot for the stars with their recent release and they came up close. All of that being said I have read a lot of hate on this site for Bon Iver's second album. I think the first one is a little overrated on this site. For Emma is a good solid album but it is most definitely not as brilliant as their second album. For Emma was too safe and accessible to be that good.

I am amazed at how many Bon Iver haters there are on this site... Whats not to like? Bon Iver is on pace to be one of the greatest artists of this time period. I don't understand the hate going on here.
