Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 11% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.9/100, a mean average of 75.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.1.

I first heard Halifax, Nova Scotia, natives Sloan at SubPop New England in Burlington, Vermont, in the spring of 1993. They didn't make much of an impression on me at the time, as the festival was jammed full of bands I'd never heard of at the time. It wasn't until a girl I loved gave me a cassette tape with this album on one side and Twice Removed on the other that I came to appreciate Sloan's penchant for straight-ahead, hooks-packed rock and roll songs that sounded to my ears like tributes to a familiar bygone era of candy-sweet sentiments of love and loss. Many loyal Sloan listeners rate Navy Blues as their best album, but for me my first real introduction to the band remains my favorite.
While this is not one of my favorite Sloan albums (as of today, I would rank it 9th out of their 12 albums), "One Chord To Another" is still a really good album.
My favorite tracks are "The Lines You Amend" and "400 Meters". Most Sloan's albums have a strong tracklist from beginning to end, but I think this one is a little less consistent than Sloan's standards. "Anyone Who's Anyone" is probably the only Sloan song ever that I really hate.
But still, if you like Sloan, you will like this album too. A very good little album by a great band!
A softer interlude between two edgy albums with a few obvious nods to The Beatles. Sloan had now mastered the art of pop-rock.
Decent album, I'd say my 2nd group fav.
Rolls from track to track with ease... A pop-rock classic. Sloan are so skilled at crafting catchy, yet complex and creative tunes that have you tapping the steering wheel while you accelerate past the speed limit. Damned photo-radar.
