Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.9/100, a mean average of 73.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.1.

The 3rd best album from The Jayhawks after Hollywood Hall & Tomorrow the Green Grass. More mellow than those two but all the hooks, melodies and harmonies. MEZ
This is a sweet album perfect for long drives or for a hungover Sunday morning. After "The Sound of Lies" this is their best collection of songs. It is certainly not a rocker, but it will fit your mood at the right time.
For the third time, after their masterpiece psychedelic "Sound of Lies" and the uneven pop-rock "Smile", the Jayhawks without Olson return to their country rock roots and at the same time present a different album. Louris' compositions, aided by Perlman and O'Reagan (the latter presenting 3 great songs) show a more positive Jayhawks which you can't avoid listneing to. It's a pleasure to have them back playing.
The jayhawks "rainy day music" is an extension of what they put out on "smile" with maybe a more adult-contemporary slant, watering down the country to the point of near-invisibility. Hits include "stumbling through the dark", the ultra-catchy "tailspin", "tampa to tulsa" and "save it for a rainy day", probably the best song on the album, a pick-me-up of a song that delivers a chorus so upbeat (with banjo!) it's impossible to be sad. "tampa to tulsa" is an easy-going, lazy-drifting song good for cloudy road trips, and there's a good live performance of it on the bonus EP.
Just when The Jayhawks semed to have died after Mark Olson's departure years before, Rainy Day Music is an excellent comeback. "Stumbling Through The Dark", "The Eyes Of Sarahjane", and "Save It For A Rainy Day" make this a welcome addition to the Jayhawk catalog.
