Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 57.3/100, a mean average of 56.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 56.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.5.

This is a very underrated, thus great album by Dylan. Mostly up tempo and greatly played by great musicians.
After the brilliance of oh mercy this comes as a real disappointment. Just as you think Dylan is back to making quality records after the debacles of knocked out loaded and down in the groove, he opens his new album with something called wiggle wiggle. What the f#@k? Wiggle wiggle like a ton of lead??, what? At least the title track is lovely, a kind of rock'n'roll nursery rhyme, but that is easily the best track on the album. There are some ok stuff like born in time and handy dandy but most of it is extremely average, sometimes worse. To be honest, if this was the best he could have come up with after oh mercy then maybe he should not have released anything at all. Dylan's contemporary Paul Simon released his rhythm of the saints album in the same year as this, and that record contains all the invention and inspiration that Dylan was so sadly lacking at this time. Very disappointing.
Without doubt, Dylan's worst album, and funnily enough, this isn't because of any lack of inspiration nor musicianship; but rather, sweetly, it's because he made this album for his four year old daughter at the time, which, for that reason, is something I can accept. But! just in case YOU can't...I did a little tweaking, and made a somewhat more accessible track-listing for us fans, made out of some of the stronger songs on this album, and more importantly, some outtakes, or separate recorded, non-album oriented songs. It's not exactly a full long playing record, but at approximately 30 minutes, it'll do.
1. Under the Red Sky
2. Unbelievable
3. Born in Time (Tell Tale Signs Version)
4. T.V Talkin' Song
5. God Knows (Tell Tale Signs Version)
6. Handy Dandy
7. The Lonesome River (With Ralph Stanley)
8. Miss the Mississippi (Bill Haley Cover)
It's still not nearly a contender for any of Dylan's best albums, but at least now it's bearable...
Hope this Helps.
