Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.6/100, a mean average of 78.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.1.

Wow, I'm surprised how they managed to release that consistent and entertaining album, while changing their sound. This is tremendously fun album and I can't believe it is that underrated on this site (like most of their catalogue).

Very high on energy metal that somehow manages to sound even less subtle than something like Rust in Peace.

Heavy as lead metal album, full on from start to finish. Love the sleeve art more than the music but I do enjoy it if I’m the right mood. Feels like it’s trying too hard at times.

How possible so low ranked? i believe is one of the top 2 or 3 heavy metal albums ever; most of all, possibly the most "pure" heavy metal album ever.

Yes, it is pure camp.
Yes, it is over the top and silly.
Yes, it is non stop action man music.
Yes, the drums are pure pumping adrenaline.
Yes, guitar duo and their sollos are face melting.
Yes, Rob Hallford is most entertaining singer ever.
Yes, Painkiller cannot be stoped,
Yes.

I might choose this number one for 1990 Halford is back at full form and song writing and guitar riffs and solos are the best since Screaming for vengeance this is in my top 5 for Judas Priest albums

What it lacks in variety, Painkiller just makes up for in solidity. All of the tracks thrash even if they are similar.
