fav track: city of blinding lights

This album is pretty much on par with their prior album. So as far as I'm concerned it wasn't up to their 80s and 90s standards. This album much like the prior sounds like U2 trying to be popular rather than push boundaries. Much more hit or miss than their prior albums.

If I were U2’s advisor, I’d tell them not to do songs like “A Man and a Woman” and “Original of the Species.” Shows you what I know. Both ballads work, especially the former, which is actually very pretty. “City of Blinding Lights” mostly works as well, though something seems to be missing, keeping it just short of a classic U2 anthem. “Vertigo” is light and infectious pop, and certainly fulfills the requirements for what passes for an anthem in the 2000s. Most of the rest of the album is at least listenable. While hardly a revelation, Atomic Bomb seems to be the best record that U2 could make at this point in their careers, which I guess makes it the “return to form” many critics say it was.

Mediocre; the only two tracks I like are Vertigo and Miracle Drug. City of Blinding Lights really annoys me for some reason. It just feels like an amped up version of ATYCLB.

U2 is still producing quality music, but nothing new. They are starting to rest on their laurels.

It has a bit more of a 'rock' feel, but really, it's still U2. This is yet another great album from them.
