Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.5/100, a mean average of 78.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 8.8.

Putting so much breaks in their jungle so that it starts sounding like trip hop... what planet are they from...?
Lou Rhodes skillfully accompanies the beats, but she is not on par with Andy Barlow's skills as a producers.
The first 4 tracks are good with a hard-hitting breaks/drum&bass influenced trip hop, which is quite unusual, especially for 1996. Then it gets more and more uninteresting and except for the striking Górecki, it's mostly bland.
Beth Gibbons imitator tries to find melodies over a collaboration between Aphex Twin and Amon Tobin. At least that's what it sounds like. It occasionally works, but mostly feels a little off.
this was a really strong debut album, and the song "Gorecki" is a real standout, and it has made it onto many mix CDs i've burned for friends. a snippet was included in the film Moulin Rouge, and it's been used in other films and the tv series Torchwood.
Best tracks: Gorecki, Zero, Lusty.
Great first album.
