Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 16% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 73.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.9.

There are so many songs by Silversun Pickups that I love, but I often find that I end up skipping tracks on most of their albums. That's not the case with this one. Even the intro does a good job of setting the stage. When I browse the tracklist I can hear every track in my head and I love them all. I actually like some of the less popular one's more than the singles. "There's no secrets this year" hits hard, and without fail there's something special to every track that follows that you won't forget. One of those bands that once you've heard even one of their songs you'll immediately know it's them when you hear another for the first time, and it's not just because of the unique vocals. And they've got their brand of noise on lock. Soft, with elements reminding me of shoegaze, yet somehow menacing at the same time. "Very carefully look over your shoulder". My only complaint would be that the songs do all sound a bit too similar to one another which can make a start to finish listen a tad tedious. The ups and downs within the tracks do help make up for this. The only tracks I might skip would be "getting old is growing old" and "draining" which can be a tad dull.

Starts really strong, by the second half it loses a bit of steam though. Still an underrated album and band.

Swoon is a lot like the debut in many ways. It's a solid set of songs again but feels a but deflated when you can't get out of your head it all feels like Carnavas 2.

Royal We and Panic Switch are excellent keepers.

Work Alone and Growing Old are good. So is Substitution.

A weaker closing song and Draining drains my interest.

I know it's good. But I find myself listening to 2 or 3 songs on Swoon and then having an itch to hear the debut instead--which doesn't speak volumes for Swoon.

Big drop off after this for Silversun Pickups as they try to extend their career by altering their sound

The first half is much stronger than the second, with Panic Switch being the definite highlight. Still, there aren't really any bad tracks.

A good follow up to their debut album. Not one sub-par track on this album.

No matter how hard I try I always end up skipping to Panic Switch and then putting on another album. It's not technically a bad album, it just isn't very engaging. Not a bad band though, and I really do adore Panic Switch which is easily their best track.

Not quiet as strong as their first but its definitely more catchy lots of solid hooks. Great piece from them and the Royal We is always in my playlists

This band never seizes to amaze me. Not as convincing or lush as Carnavas but you can tell the Silversun Pickups have greatness and staying power. Great record.
