Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.3/100, a mean average of 66.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

Here it is, the so-called "worst" Cure album. Wild Mood swings in fact is quite underated, I even think it's better than Wish, and certainly better than Bloodflowers. There is plenty to love on here with great tracks like "Want", "Strange attraction", "Gone", "Return", "Treasure", "Bare" etc.
The only bad thing about this album is the presence of two really weak and head-scratching songs ; "Club America" and "Round and round and round". You take those two and replace it with good b-sides from the same era (i'd say "Ocean" and "Adonais") , and you almost got a top 5 Cure album. Here is my ideal Wild mood swings:
1.Want
2.This is a lie
3.The 13th
4.Strange attraction
5.Mint car
6.Jupiter crash
7.Ocean
8.Gone!
9.Return
10.Trap
11.Adonais
12.Treasure
13. Bare
So ends The Cure's imperial era. Wild Mood Swings is by no means a disaster. In fact, like all Cure albums up to this point, it's varying degrees of good. The worst I can say about it is that there are a few moments that verge on repetitive. Nothing is an outright mistake, and even the experiments that don't fully land are still compelling. It's somewhat disheartening to see such a fruitful streak end, but so it goes. If Wild Mood Swings is guilty of anything, it's trying a little too hard. The songwriting is, by and large still there, but takes a backseat to the stylistic swerves peppered throughout. If anything, the strongest tracks tend to be the most familiar, where nothing is overthought. Still, I'm not immune to the corny charms of this thing. A record that might not be The Cure at their best, but that is still worthy of them.
I really like this one. I understand that it's a very low Cure release, but the name of the album fit perfectly how the tracklist is: a wild change of moods (and some moods are very bad actually).
Fails to scale the pinnacles of mid-80s albums by the band. A bit of a letdown.
Probably my second favourite Cure album. I have no idea why Club America is the lowest rated song on the album, it's my favourite. Mint Car, Trap and Return are also great.

Some underrated songs in here, but in general, it's very uneven. One of the worst Cure albums, but enjoyable nontheless.
Best track: "Bare"
Weakest track: "Round & Round & Round"
Takes a couple of listens to sink in. It's more often the sadder songs like Treasure and Bare that become favourites.
...it seems the Cure were struggling to keep up with the times...
