Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 75.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 8.4.

Following the disastrous response to In Violet Light, the Hip attempted to return to their blues-rock roots with In Between Evolution. Despite the fact that many of the ingredients that made the 1990s Hip so great are here: catchy riffs, rocking beats, and witty lyrics; this sounds more like a band emulating their old selves without too much substance on its own. As with all Hip albums, there are some great tracks here - namely "Goodnight Josephine" and "Gus the Polar Bear" - but this album lacks the cohesiveness and energy that truly make the Tragically Hip so special.
Definitely on the downslope.
At this point in their career, albums lose their identity. You could take songs off this and put them on In Violet Light or World Container, and it wouldn't make a difference. Stick to the 90s work - way better.
While this epitomizes an era where the band has passed their energy peak, there are still many great songs here and this is still a great album by most bands' standards. I love One Night in Copenhagen, Are We Family, Nashville and Makeshift.
