Recorded in 1960 at The Bit in Hollywood, CA and released later that year. Since the titles of most of Les McCann's early albums begin with "Les McCann Ltd. Plays..." is often referred to as just "The Shout" including in re-releases. "The Shout" is the third track, arguably McCann's greatest composition. As far as my research has gathered, this album is the first release of "The Shout".
The trio with Leroy Vinnegar on bass, Ron Jefferson on drums, and McCann on piano would be replicated on many of McCann's releases as bandleader, and even on releases which feature Les McCann's trio as the backing group. Jefferson in particular was a disciple of Max Roach, and as a founding member of McCann's trio, features on almost all of McCann's releases up until 1965.
