Saw Tame Impala at Tower Theater in Philly last night.
Great show.
The opening act, LA Priest, got the hook as they started playing music over top of him when he wouldn't wrap up his act.
Kevin Parker and his mates were excellent - packed house.
Some rude broad tried to bully her way past me to the front ( where there was no more room).
I didn't move an inch (had she asked nicely I may have ).
After failing to get to the front during the entire LA Priest set she finally gave up and I was able to enjoy the Tame Impala set without anyone crawling up my leg or leaning on me. Some people are so damn rude - I was queued up a good hour and a half to get up front - plan ahead if you want the best spot.
I saw Ride last night on the first night of their tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of Nowhere and it was fucking incredible. The performance included a short best of set followed by a performance of Nowhere in full and then topped off with an insane encore of Drive Blind, Chelsea Girl and a cover of I Wanna be Your Dog; Drive Blind was a big highlight featuring a huge wall of sound section which lasted a good few minutes. The only issue was that it was very, very loud, which has made hearing difficult today, but it was definitely worth it.

I expected them to sort of be a samey type of band that just played songs on stage, but they got really into it and did so in the early afternoon where the temps had to be encroaching 100 degrees f. Lead singer was throwing out bottles of water to the crowd between almost every other song. Honorable Mention to Amason, whom I really enjoyed.
His voice just carries. Everyone there was totally enthralled and enjoying every min of it. Personally I'm a huge fan anyway. But I was really pleased with the crowd and absolutely thrill with the performance. Father John Misty also was very very good.
And it wasn't even a competition. Foo Fighters were great and Drake was better than I was expecting, but Florence just brought the house down. I think shes gonna be around for a loong time. She moves as if shes floating above the stage and just gives of a feeling of honest love for the audience. Not to mention the girl has PIPES. I also didnt realize that shes not even 30 yet.
Not much to say here. I was excited to see them. I like their first album a lot, but they were such a bore that i contemplated leaving before they even got to their hits. MisterWives also didn't meet expectations.
Tim Showalter was an other guy who you could just tell he was having a ball. I overheard some guy next to me say, "He looks like a bubbly happy Rob Zombie". When the artists are having fun it just makes the performance that much better. Im excited to watch that band grow.
I was personally disappointed in their latest album, after enjoying their first so much. But they are just a ball of energy and really understand band member positioning to really play to the audience and not just stand and play their songs (cough cough Alt-J). Bands with a bunch of members are typically fun anyway, but you could really see all of their individual personalities shine through. Really Really fun. Highly recommended.
Neither one were really on my radar to make a point to see. I know Walk the moon because of "that one song" and i recognized Chance's name from his popularity on this site. I had a blast at both. Chance was the best rapper i saw including Run The Jewels and Drake.
I love Modest Mouse (as do a lot of you), but I was really nervous after reading something, that I think Mercury posted, that said they were a huge disappointment. The sound was spot on, Brock sounded perfect. He obviously didn't sound exactly like he does in the studio, but definitely good enough for me to think they could have a great live album. They also played a really diverse set list spanning almost all of their career.
All in all it was a really great weekend with way more show that i enjoyed even then i mentioned. Like I said, Foo Fighters were great and Tame Impala absolutely killed as did Gary Clark Jr.. But there were just too many great shows to talk about them all. Im sure i missed some really good ones too. _________________

Didn't like the lineup enough to go, but my girlfriend and I kayaked Town Lake early Sunday and heard most of the Beat Connection and Amason sets. Wish Simpson would've been at that stage at that time.

Sunday marked the second time I decided to see Pile, this time traversing by myself since all the college Columbus Day parties were too damn expensive.
They were hilariously out of place playing with Ascend/Descend, Phantom Glue, Life in Vacuum and KEN Mode. The last act was the best, mainly because this is the second time Pile didn't play either Prom Song or Don't Touch Anything 😢 .

I've never been to Fun Fun Fun Fest, but im always intrigued by the line up. Looks good this year, too. Unfortunately I will not be in attendance, but that weekend my girlfriend and i will be going with my folks to see Billy Joel in Houston. Might have to catch FFFF next year. _________________
