I've currently (re-)listened to 22 albums and this is my provisional top 19 (with 3 albums I will not classify and also have no intention of voting them down either): the number at the left is the one given by Baystate not my personal rank:

The first album in this bunch I've disliked so far. What on earth is this? Some kind of half-baked folk musical starring bargain-bin Joanna Newsom, bargain-bin Tom Waits, and bargain-bin Bon Iver... oh wait, that is the real Justin Vernon ๐ซข
The music isn't compelling, while the lyrics feel canned and far from poetic because they're all shoehorned into a clunky, hard-to-follow Greek mythology-based storyline. Are the different singers playing individual characters, multiple characters, or are they there for sonic variety? The whole thing is simultaneously cheesy and dull as hell. Show tunes are a hard sell for me to begin with, but folk show tunes? That's another level.
After I collected my thoughts, I looked it up, and what do you know, this did become an actual musical six years later. _________________ Join us in the canon game :) / Add me on RYM

Completely agree! My thoughts pretty much exactly.

When are our lists due? I finished listening to everything today, but there are many albums I've heard only once at this point, so I'll need to go back and re-listen to a bunch before finalizing my list, and I'd like to know how much longer I have to do that.
Whoops -- I totally forgot about this while getting swept up in other projects (Classical etc) and I doubt Im going to have time to take anything else on within the next month or maybe longer.
If that means you'll have to remove me or something similar, its all good. No harm done.
Cool project/game though and it looks like interesting lists and discussions are coming out of it. _________________ Best Classical Best Films Best Paintings

Hi everyone, no hard deadline for rankings has been set yet, and that's something that should be collaborative too. I volunteered to do the calculations and stuff, but this is a group project based on Tilly's idea when it comes down to it. Re-upping these posts from February 7-9:
Quote:
The next step is for us each to make it through these albums at our own pace. Deadline TBD but I'm thinking between two and four months, depending on everyone's thoughts.
Once you've listened to them all, you will submit your ranking. Your favorite 50 albums of the pool will receive between 50 points and 1 point based on your order. You have the option of designating up to 5 albums to bring up the rear of your ranking, which will then receive -1 point each. The remaining 10-15 albums will receive no points based your ranking.
You don't have to have submitted a list to rank these. Anyone who feels like listening to all 65 is welcome to. :)

tbh it would take me forever to listen to all the albums here. would it be ok to just check two or three songs off the album and then follow up with the 20 or so that really strike me?
Sure. If someone can't listen to all 65 in full but still wants to vote, they can do this:
a) At least sample all 65 albums before voting.
b) Rank all the albums you've heard in full (but if you've heard 50+, only post your top 50). If you've heard 20 in full, your #1 album will receive 20 points instead of 50, and so forth.
c) If you haven't heard all 65 in full, you aren't eligible to give out negative points to any albums.
