Almost as good as Sound of silver, which is no small feat. Come back, James Murphy. Music needs you.
An astonishing record. Though it struggles to emerge from the shadow of James' more celebrated efforts, this may quietly be his best. Of the 9 tracks here, 7 have the potential to hit you just as hard as All My Friends did, and they can do it with just as much mastery of dance music as anything on Sound of Silver. A more universal and less personal record than SoS and that's for the better. James has taken the listener out of his life and plopped himself firmly in the listener's. One of the greatest albums of all time.
this is my favourite album ever. it's hard to even write about how much i love it. it's warm, funny, bittersweet and every second of it makes you happy to be alive, happy to have friends, happy to be going out and having fun. it sounds like life - it's nostalgic, heartbroken, drunk, bitter, sarcastic, hungover and starry-eyed. sorry for the wank, i just can't help it. james murphy, thank you x
'Dance Yrself Clean' is the first ever LCD Soundsystem song that I listened to. The moment the beat drops the first time you listen to it (with your headphones on full volume of course) is one of the most magical musical moments you'll ever experience. And the best part is, the pace and quality that this song sets is sustained throughout the album. 'All I Want' is a brilliant re-imagining of 'Heroes'; 'Home', which references Talking Heads, is a near-perfect way to end a near-perfect album; and 'You Wanted A Hit' is the quintessential LCD Soundsystem song -- slowly and methodically building up to a climax. The only weak point is 'Somebody's Calling Me', and the reason why I gave my favourite album a 9.5. Ugh, it frustrates me so much, it's so clearly a bad song, what was James thinking? Regardless, This Is Happening is an enthralling marriage of Murphy's two loves: dance and rock music. Win Butler said it best when he said that LCD Soundsystem are New Order meets The B52s. Whatever you do, listen to this album -- it's bloody brilliant.
Dance Yrself Clean... 100, not one weak track, except Somebody's Calling Me. Pow Pow is honestly just funny and stands out in the track listing, and Home is a fantastic ender having the soaring vocals from various people that was in Dance Yrself Clean.
