This album stars in a truly sublime way with that intro beat in Dance yrslf clean, that gets you in the mood for the rest of a magical trip. Songs like Pow Pow and Drunk Girls are just very fun and they contrast with the emotionally loaded All I Want (It's your Pity) and I Can Change. But, in my opinion, 'Home' is the true top song in this wonderful album and one of the best album closer maybe ever.

The main problem with indie rock that I have is that it can be too calculated from time to time. And LCD Soundsystem takes the crown when it comes to that. Even the feigned wild vocals are... well... I said it already: feigned. They’re controlled chaos. And they’re also the exact same vocals we already heard from Arcade Fire, The Flaming Lips, David Gilmour and which started with Carl Wilson’s impression of soul.
The beats are plain boring. Even Kraftwerk has more swing to it. It sounds like video game music, but there are honestly video games with better music than this.

James Murphy is that annoying dad who indoctrinates his children with his idea of “real music”. And I think anyone who thinks this is good too. “Do people hate ears?” he asked with regards to the Black Eyed Peas: no, maybe they just like a band with an original sound, which likes to take risks and which isn’t afraid of coming off as ridiculous.
LCD Soundsystem is a band led by fear and rules, instead of spontaneity and sincere emotions.

'Dance Yrself Clean' is the first ever LCD Soundsystem song that I listened to. The moment the beat drops the first time you listen to it (with your headphones on full volume of course) is one of the most magical musical moments you'll ever experience. And the best part is, the pace and quality that this song sets is sustained throughout the album. 'All I Want' is a brilliant re-imagining of 'Heroes'; 'Home', which references Talking Heads, is a near-perfect way to end a near-perfect album; and 'You Wanted A Hit' is the quintessential LCD Soundsystem song -- slowly and methodically building up to a climax. The only weak point is 'Somebody's Calling Me', and the reason why I gave my favourite album a 9.5. Ugh, it frustrates me so much, it's so clearly a bad song, what was James thinking? Regardless, This Is Happening is an enthralling marriage of Murphy's two loves: dance and rock music. Win Butler said it best when he said that LCD Soundsystem are New Order meets The B52s. Whatever you do, listen to this album -- it's bloody brilliant.

Not only a great dance album, but one of the great albums of the decade. Impeccable songwriting!

While I find Sound of Silver to be more cohesive, This Is Happening is still a worthy follow up with some amazing tracks. The euphoria in Dance Yrself Clean gets me everytime.
